Joyce Kauffman is a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law and was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in December 1992. She has a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Lesley College (now Lesley University) and a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Attorney Kauffman is also a trained Mediator and Collaborative Lawyer; the focus of her legal practice, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is LGBT family law and traditional family law.
Attorney Kauffman has been a member of the Family Law Advisory Council of the National Center for Lesbian Rights since 2003; she was on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association from 1997 to 2003, serving as co-chair from 2000-2003 and as chair of MLGBA’s Family Law Section from 2003-2006. She also served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Family Pride Coalition (now Family Equality Council). She volunteers with Senior Partners for Justice, an organization providing legal services to indigent individuals.
Attorney Kauffman is the recipient of the Gwen Bloomingdale Pioneer Spirit Award, MLGBA, 2007; the Fisher Davenport Award, Family Pride Coalition and COLAGE, 2004; and the Barney Frank Award, Massachusetts School of Law, 2003.
In 2008 and 2009, Attorney Kauffman was selected for inclusion in New England’s Super Lawyers. In 2009, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly selected her as one of its Lawyers of the Year.
