ASK THE EXPERTS
ABOUT Immigration and Citizenship
We are two gay guys in civil partnership from the UK, we have a 2 1/2 year old sone we adopted 18 months ago from the UKz. Weare traveling to Australia next weekend and have a two hour stop over in Duabi - just transit. Is this safe, can you offer any advice.
A: Response from Brian Esser
My general advice for international travel is to respect the norms of the country you are visiting. This means that if the country does not recognize your relationship, you cannot present to immigration authorities as a family or you risk being turned away.
I am not familiar with any reports of American or European LGBT families facing problems in Dubai, especially while transiting through. If you're still concerned, I suggest contacting an LGBT friendly travel agent or the UK embassy in Dubai.
